In the past two weeks we worked hard to reach a more complete solution- we knew we wanted a to create a game, that can be played by a child and a parent in the car (as multiplayer), but can also be played by the child alone, when the parent needs to focus on driving (single player). But what kind of game would it be?
In the lab, we worked on a few exercises to help us focus our solution even more. we worked on creating a more focused persona and scenario, and also did a "perfect assistant" exercise- if we had the perfect robot to solve our problem, what would it do? we had a lot of ideas from this exercise, but still no clearer idea of when kind of game would we create
next week we're meeting mentors to hear our idea for a product, so this week we wanted to come up with the game type that would work for our scenario. After a lot of brain storming, reading researches about designing toys for children, and market research, we came up with a game that teaches children about emotions-
We read that ages 3-4 are ages where children are still developing empathy, and learning to express their emotions.
So our game would show children different faces displaying different emotions, the child would need to guess the emotion, and then discuss it with the parent (they would have a conversation about how the child feels, when had he felt this emotion himself.. ). we still need to figure out how to tell the parent what emotion to talk about without distracting him, and how would the single player mode work- we hope to make it related to the driving.
We pitched our idea to Noa, who wasn't very thrilled about it.. so we pitched some of the older ideas that we thought about. Me and Noa liked better the idea of a game where the parent and child create music together. i was personally inspired by the idea of the looper instrument. the idea is that the child would have control over the composition and the melody, and that parent can add music as well by singing, or drumming on the wheel, etc..
our plan is to pitch both ideas to the mentors, and hear what they have to say about it.
Which game type do you like best?
